ICU Physiotherapy

Patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) may experience significant muscle weakness, reduced mobility, breathing difficulties, fatigue, and loss of physical function due to critical illness, prolonged bed rest, or extended hospitalisation. ICU physiotherapy can play an important role in supporting recovery while the patient is medically stable and under appropriate clinical supervision.

At Flexi Care Physiotherapy Centre, our approach focuses on the patient’s individual condition, medical status, and stage of recovery. Physiotherapy assessment may include breathing patterns, chest function, muscle strength, joint mobility, mobility level, endurance, and functional abilities to determine appropriate rehabilitation goals.

Depending on the patient’s condition and medical clearance, treatment may include positioning, breathing exercises, chest physiotherapy, passive and active movements, stretching, bed mobility, sitting and standing exercises, and gradual mobilisation. Each activity is carefully selected and progressed according to the patient’s tolerance and clinical requirements.

ICU physiotherapy may support patients recovering from critical illness, prolonged bed rest, respiratory conditions, major surgery, or extended hospitalisation. The rehabilitation programme aims to help reduce the effects of immobility, maintain physical function, and gradually prepare the patient for greater independence as their condition improves.

At Flexi Care Physiotherapy Centre, we understand that recovery after critical illness can be a gradual process. Our goal is to provide appropriate, patient-focused rehabilitation that supports mobility, muscle strength, breathing function, endurance, and a safe return to everyday activities in coordination with the patient’s medical care team.
